Classic String Art

How to create your own string art picture

What you need:

  • wooden board
  • pattern
  • nails
  • hammer
  • yarn or wool

you will also need:

  • scotch tape
  • ruler
  • picture holder (i go with a soda can tab)

So here we go.

If you have a pattern printed or drawn, cut it out and tape it on the wooden board. If you are not sure whether your pattern is centered, you can align it with the ruler. After that, you can begin to hammer the nails into the board. Try to keep the nails at the same height, that looks the best.

Tip: Try to select a pattern that is large enough and try to space the nails far enough apart, otherwise it will become difficult to add more nails.

When you’re done with the hammering and hopefully not have hammered your thumb too often, take the pattern from the board. Then select your yarn or the wool and start to connect the nails.

There are different techniques. As you can see in the picture, you can simply connect the nails once around the outside and inside of the nails. Another technique is, the wild crossing, from one to another corner. Tip: It’s very important that you keep the thread under tension at all times.

I hope to see you again soon.
